At the 72nd AWGIPC Meeting, ASEAN countries focused on reviewing and discussing the implementation of the ASEAN Action Program on IP for the period 2016-2025 and IP cooperation activities between ASEAN and ASEAN partners ( AANZFTA, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European Patent Office (EPO), European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Japan Patent Office (JPO),…); Research on the scope of ASEAN’s Action Program on IP in the post-2025 period and upgrade the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Intellectual Property Cooperation; and dialogue with a number of new ASEAN partners (French Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), International Olympic Committee (IOC)) attending the AWGIPC Meeting for the first time to discuss orientations for cooperation on IP in next time.
Overview of AWGIPC 72 Meeting
On the sidelines of the AWGIPC 72 Meeting, the 15th Meeting of the Intellectual Property Subcommittee of the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA IPC 15) took place on April 25, 2024. The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Parties’ obligations under Article 5 (copyright rights), Article 9.7 (participation in international treaties on intellectual property) of the AANZFTA Agreement as well as the implementation of projects on The IP has been approved by the Economic Budget Subcommittee of AANZFTA (ECWP).
On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2024, the NOIP coordinated with the WIPO Office in Singapore, the People’s Committee and the Department of Science and Technology of Thua Thien Hue province, Phu Xuan University to organize a ceremony to celebrate the Day. In addition to the above sideline activities, the NOIP organized bilateral meetings with a number of the Agency’s partners (EPO, INPI, IP Office of Singapore (IPOS), WIPO,…) on the occasion of partners attending the Conference. AWGIPC 72 meeting during the week of June 22-25, 2024.
At the bilateral meeting with INPI, the two Agencies celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral cooperation between the two Agencies (1994 – 2024), shared the recent development situation between the two Agencies, and exchanged cooperation orientations in the coming time and signed an Action Plan for the period 2024-2025 within the framework of the bilateral cooperation memorandum signed in 2023, which prioritizes a number of activities to support businesses, training officials, disseminating laws and IP issues associated with emerging technologies.

The Director of the National Office of Intellectual Property also held a bilateral meeting with the General Director of IPOS. At the meeting, the leaders of the two agencies discussed a number of cooperation contents in the coming period, especially cooperation activities through the Cooperation Program in searching and examining patent applications (CS&E) to Speed up the patent registration process, contributing to facilitating trade and investment relations between the two countries.
